Scarsdale Aikido is affiliated with the Aikido Association of America, which is in turn affiliated with Aikikai Honbu dojo in
Japan.
Steve Kanney, the chief instructor, is 5th dan, Shidoin. His background in Aikido is as follows:
1978-1983 Miami Aikikai under Nelson Andujar (student of Yamada Sensei)
1983-2005 New York Aikikai
1983-1989 Student of Yamada Sensei
1989-1996 Student of both Yamada and Sugano Sensei
1996-2005 Exclusively Student of Sugano Sensei;
2006 Joined Aikido Association of America (AAA) to expand curriculum
2003 Opened dojo in Scarsdale
In addition, he participated in seminars with some frequency under the following instructors: Morihiro Saito Sensei,
Tamura Sensei, and Saotome Sensei.
